Welcome to the Glastonbury Fringe
When and where will it happen?A basic aim is to draw more people into town during the summer festival season – when Glastonbury is surprisingly empty of visitors. So the Fringe will take place in late June, in all of the many venues, large and small, that currently host regular or occasional performances in Glastonbury itself (and some that don’t). Programme announcements will be made as events are confirmed and a full programme will be will be announced at the end of May.
Who is running it? The Fringe will be a joint effort by everyone in the community
who wants to get involved or contribute. Individual events will be organised and run
independently by local promoters and venues. Glastonbury Community Development
Trust is hosting the Fringe project team, who will look after co-ordination and
communications, umbrella publicity and marketing, and will seek sponsorship and
funding to promote the Fringe to as wide an audience as possible.
Why become involved? There are many economic and artistic advantages to co-operation, joint marketing and economies of scale. By getting involved, you will
be helping both your own business and the Town itself by increasing visitor numbers.
Ideally, this will be the First Annual Glastonbury Fringe. If Glastonbury people can
come together around this idea (as they already seem to be doing), and if they enjoy
the experience – and if The Fringe starts to boost tourist footfall and spend in the
town – people will want to do it again … and again.
How can you get involved? Just let us know that you’re interested in hosting or
organising an event, sponsoring an event or the Fringe as a whole – or taking part
or helping in any other way. If you are an artist wanting to perform, then contact
one of the promoters or venues taking part.
